In 2015 i started experimenting with sine scrollers, that c00l retro text-effect from 8-bit demos and intros in the 90's. I thought it would be fun to see text scrolling on something different than a computer screen, so i used my phone instead. But why use 1 phone if you also can use 2? My backup phone was always on my desk anyway, mainly for Marktplaats related businezz and for catching spam callers. I tried to make some scrolling text overlapping two screens as fluent as possible, which turned out quiet tricky the way i initially tried it; hitting the play button on 2 video's exactly at the same time on each phone 🙂 A bit later i found a way to sync 2 video's with VLC player for android + a VLC Remote.
One of the first results was supposed to be a contribution to the MIST2015 artpack for Mistigris. However, due to logistic issue's the scroller didn't arrive in time. And since it had a date stamped in it unfortunately couldn't be used the next artpack, so it aired without the scroller. Despite this setback, Chtulu from Mistigris found time to write about it in this blogpost.
Demosplash 2016
While continuing working on sine scrollers in 2016, i participated in the Demoplash demoparty with 'The Distributed Sinescroller '. Demoplash is one of the largest and longest-running demoparties in North America, also allowing remote entries from all over the world. Since this wasn't a 'real-time' generated piece of videowork, i entered the 'freestyle-video' genre. From the 2 participators in this genre i turned out to be the winner. Quiet a surprise!
